Colony summary data
Counts of nesting colonial waterbirds by site and date in San Francisco Bay from 2014 – 2019. Each row represents the counts for a species during a single visit to the breeding colony.
Field Descriptions:
- ColonyName – A unique identifier for each colony, describing geographic location of colony
- Latitude/Longitude – coordinates in decimal degrees and WGS84
- Species Code
- Standard species code based on common name (e.g. GBHE for Great Blue Heron)
- Species code ‘ZERO’ if no species were detected at the colony during the visit
- Species Code “UNID” for unidentified if the observer did not identify the species but recorded nest data

- TotalNestCount – total number of nests that are actively being used by breeding birds
- TotalAdultCount - total number of breeding adults at the colony
- TotalYoungCount - total number of young of the year at the colony
- TotalPossibleNestCount – number of nests observed that could not be definitely identified as active breeding sites (e.g., a nest structure without breeding adults nearby)
