Annual Summary data
Summary counts of colonial waterbirds by site in San Francisco Bay from 1980 – 2019. Data were summarized across colony visits to calculate peak (i.e. maximum) counts for each breeding season. All locations are specified in decimal degrees with WGS84. A single row of data represents the peak count (i.e. the maximum count for the season) for a unique year, colony, and species.
Field Descriptions:
- ColonyName – A unique identifier for each colony, describing geographic location of colony
- SpeciesCode – 4 letter code used to identify species
- Standard species code based on common name (e.g. GBHE for Great Blue Heron)
- Visit this page for full list of species
- SurveyYear – Year in which the data were collected
- PeakNumberofNests – Maximum number of nests counted on any single colony visit during the breeding season
- PeakNestDate – Date on which PeakNumberofNests was counted
- PeakNumberofAdults – Maximum number of adults counted on any single colony visit during the breeding season
- PeakAdultDate – Date on which PeakNumberofAdults was counted
- EstimatedNumberBreeding – Calculated by multiplying the peak number of nests by 2 (assuming 2 breeding adults per nest)
- PeakNumberofYoung – Maximum number of young counted on any single colony visit during the breeding season
- PeakYoungDate – Date on which PeakNumberofYoung was counted
- Latitude/Longitude – colony coordinates in decimal degrees and WGS84
